Getting your sewing machine basics 

overview & objectives

This introductory mini course will prepare you to be able to do the following:
  • Overview of the different parts of a sewing machine
  • How to plug the cord correctly
  • How to turn your machine on and off 
  • How to replace needles & choose the right one
  • How to place the spool of thread appropriately and learning which thread to use
  • How to choose a thread
  • How to thread the machine
  • How to wind a bobbin
  • How to position your needle
  • How to thread your needle
  • How to adjust the tension on the machine
  • How to top-load your bobbin
  • How to pace yourself when stitching
  • How to sew a straight stitch & a zig zag stitch
  • How to sew 3/8", 4/8" (or 1/2) 5/8" (industry standard), 6/8" (or 3/4) on sample fabric.
  • How to back stitch

who is this course for?

  • Beginners
  • Anyone who is interested in learning how to use a sewing machine and its features


Materials and tools needed

  • Half yard of muslin woven fabric for cutting and sewing practice
  • 1 spool of all-purpose sewing thread 
  • Pins & fabric scissors
  • Sewing machine 
  • I will share a few sample patterns. Print it out before this course begins.

Mini course cancellation policy

All payments towards any mini course tuition is final. No refunds are issued on our mini course registrations. 
In the event you register for one of our mini courses then cannot attend, or team would gladly offer you a one-time credit to use toward any future mini course. In order for us to grant the credit, it is important to inform us with a minimum of 48 hours prior to the start of the mini course.

NONE of the credits are redeemable for cash and they are not eligible to be used to buy merchandise either. 

Our Policy

Please treat these small classes as a professional opportunity that will allow you to earn a skill that will be useful to your sewing goals in the future and make a commitment to attend or give us 48 hours prior if you need to cancel for a credit.

If you cannot make the initial commitment to attend the first mini course you signed up for and you were able to reschedule 48 hours ahead of time but cannot make the second event, I highly recommend that you give your spot to a friend since we cannot continue rescheduling your spot in the course.
